Indications/Uses
Hypothyroidism of any etiology. Suppression of TSH levels in the presence of goitre, nodules & after radiological &/or surgical treatment of thyroid cancer. Suppression of goitrogenic effects of other drugs, for diagnosis & in suppression tests.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 0.05-0.1 mg/day. Increase the daily dose every 2 wk by 0.025-0.05 mg until the desired results are obtained. Maintenance: 0.1-0.2 mg/day. Extreme hypothyroidism, elderly patient or patient w/ CV disorders Initially 0.0125-0.025 mg/day. Childn >12 yr 150-200 mcg, 6-12 yr 100-150 mcg, 1-5 yr 75-100 mcg, 6-12 mth 50-75 mcg, <6 mth 25-50 mcg. To be taken daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min-1 hr before meals.
Special Precautions
Hyperthyroidism, CV disease &/or severe & long-existing myxoedema.
Adverse Reactions
Tachycardia, nervousness, tremor, headache, flushing, perspiration, wt loss.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulant, antidiabetics, digitalis, cholestyramine, phenytoin.
